BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL DOG SHOW
AFGHAN HOUNDS
A cold, windy day that sadly affected some dogs movement. A super quality entry which was a pleasure to judge. Some decisions were very difficult so it was just down to performance on the day. Some very strong family ties with many of the dogs placed today (brothers, sisters, relatives etc.) On the whole, heads are much improved since the last time I judged with only a few heavy ones here today. However croups and top lines need watching. Several had hardly any fall away and some had ‘dippy’ top lines.
MINOR PUPPY DOG ( 5 )
1. BASTOW – KARANDIKAR MOON DANCER –7 months black/cream. Beautiful head and eyes. Chiselling already starting to show. Well placed and angulated shoulders. Big feet. Level top line and good fall away. Ringed tail. Good angulation to his rear quarters. Moved soundly and true for such a young male. This gave him BEST PUPPY.
2. CAMPBELL /WELLS – KHARABOU SCOTS WIZARDLY WAYS. 6½ month black/silver. Beautifully moving young dog. Another with an excellent head and expression. Well angulated shoulders and hindquarters. Level topline. Ringed tail. Should have a bright future. I see I placed his litter sisters. A very nice litter.
3. BASTOWS – KARANDIKAR MOON MAGIC
JUNIOR DOG ( 6)
1) O’NEILL – SAXONMILL MIDNIGHT MAYHEM OF TERSTINE – Really liked this arrogant black/ silver. Excellent head and expression. Well angulated throughout. Short level topline. Perfectly balanced. Ringed tail. Moved soundly covering the ground.
2) HALL- SAXONMILL MIDNIGHT COWBOY very flashy gold / grizzle. Litter brother to the winner. All the same comments apply however I preferred the head and expression of my winner. Will watch them both with interest.
3) NISBET- FINIX TREIG
YEARLING DOG ( 4)
1) GRIFFIN- ASHAHNI AJMAL AT LAZAKHAN J.W. – Black/ Silver. Good head, eye and expression. Long neck into good shoulders. Good spring of rib and depth of chest. Level topline and low set ringed tail. Good sweep to hindquarters. Moved with spring and drive covering the ground. Considered for the CC
2) BROWNLESS/WILSON– RYDBERGS BEYOND ALL LIMITS FOR
TOLAH( IMP)
Shaded masked gold. Totally different type to my winner but nonetheless a very impressive dog. Beautiful head and expression. Dark, well shaped eyes. Excellent shoulders. Level topline. Deep red saddle. Well angulated hindquarters. Presented in excellent condition. Moved well covering the ground
3) WINTERS – ASHAHNI AZZAM WITH TOKANDO J.W.
GRADUATE DOG (6)
1) WESTGARTH – CUBANBA BETELGEUSE OVER TAMREESHA - Impressive Red Brindle. Beautiful head, eye and expression somewhat camouflaged by a mass of coat. Long neck into good shoulders. Short level topline. Deep well sprung chest. Low set ringed tail. Well angulated hindquarters. Stands proudly over a lot of ground. Moved well.
2) METCALFE- PAHLEVI ABRAXUS – Black/Silver. Not in his best ‘bib and tucker’. Good head, and expression. Long neck into good shoulders. Level topline. Good depth to brisket. Low set ringed tail carried correctly. Good sweep to hindquarters. This boy certainly knows how to move.
3) WOODWARD – TURLODALES TOPSY TALBY
POST GRADUATE (13)
A close decision between 2nd/3rd.
1. YOUNG/WEST – PAHLEVI ASHBY AT SHIROBANA. Very flashy, eye catching ,profusely coated black/silver. Loved this dog. Has everything I was looking for. Superb head, eye and expression. Long lean head. Long neck into excellent shoulders. Level topline. Saddle. Good spring of rib and depth of brisket. Ringed tail Plenty of chest room. Excellent hindquarters.Big feet. Moves out well covering lots of ground. Free, easy strides.Delighted to give him his 1st CC and BOB . Should easily gain his crown. Delighted to see him down to the last few in a strong Hound Group. A worthy son of a special sire.
2. GILL/MARSHALL– CARRE D’AS DU MANUEL GALOPIN AT MIAMARNA.(Imp FR) Another Black/silver. Good head, eye and expression. Level topline. Well angulated throughout. Good spring of rib and depth of chest. Low set ringed tail. I love the movement on this dog. It reminds me very much of his grandmother Saqlawi Fascination. He has bounce and reach and plenty of drive. His handler gets the best out of him.
3. VAN NEIROP/GORMAN- JIMELLREE NIGHT TO REMEMBER AT KELDEHAN just pipped on his movement today.
MID LIMIT(7)
1. SIMPSON/ FITZGERALD – NELIAPILAN JAAKKO-KULTA AT TAJIKH ( Imp Fin )Black masked gold who was beautifully presented. Correct head, eye and expression.. Long neck leading into correct shoulders. Level topline. Correct fall away and ringed tail. Well angulated hindquarters. Very stylish on the move covering the ground but sometimes I feel that his owner could just get a little bit more out of him. A lovely dog to go over.
2. DE HAVILAND – ALOUANN LEATHER ‘N’ LACE WITH PURPLEQUEEN. Black masked gold with a good red saddle. Very arrogant in his appearance. Good head, eye and expression. Long neck into good shoulders. Level topline. Good deep chest and spring of rib. Low set ringed tail. Excellent sweep to hindquarters. Moves soundly and true.
3. WILKINSON- JAHADI EXUS
LIMIT ( 12)
1) OAKLEY/NIELSEN – ABICA’S LUCKY’LEVEN TO FREECLOUD. Black/Silver who is his own worst enemy. When he wants to perform he is all that you could ask for. Excellent head, eye and expression. Long neck into well angulated shoulders. Level topline. Excellent hindquarters. Correct fall away and ringed tail. He has a long easy effortless stride. Moved well in his class but failed to give his all in the challenge. Considered him for high honours.
2) O’DONNELL – JAVIDAN DIRTY LITTLE SECRET. Well made Black supporting an excellent head, eye and expression. Good neck and shoulders. Level topline. Good depth the brisket and spring of rib. Well angulated hindquarters. Moves with purpose covering plenty of ground. Beautifully presented.
3) GILBERT- FIROS CAPERDONICH J.W.
OPEN ( 8 )
1) GREECHAN –CH/CHI.CH RASHID EBN HUGO VON HAUSSMAN AT MYHALSTON ( IMP CHI). Black/Silver. Good head with beautiful eye and expression. Long neck leading into well laid/angulated shoulders. Short level topline. Good deep chest and spring of rib. Low set ringed tail. Well angulated hind quarters. Moves true .Full of the joys of spring today that tended to spoil his movement. A worthy Champion.
2) PASCOE- CH SARAKHAN SENATOR- Another well Black / Silver. I have always liked this dog and was delighted to have the opportunity of going over him. Excellent head, eyes and expression. Long neck into good shoulders. Level topline. Well angulated hindquarters. Good depth of chest and spring of rib. Moves well covering the ground. Never lets his owner down. Another very worthy Champion.
3) NISBET – FIROS RHUM J.W.
BITCHES
MINOR PUPPY BITCH. This was a class full of some very promising prospects for the future.
1) KIRK- ISTANI CINDERELA ROCKAFELLA. This is the one I would have quite willingly brought home. Delightful self masked cream of 7 months. Beautiful head, eye and expression. Correct pigmentataion. Long neck into excellent shoulders. Short level topline. Long length from hip to hock with correct angulation . The wind did her no favours today and she wanted to play but the movement is there and when settled will be hard to beat.Only just beaten for Best Puppy by the dog who was far more settled.
2) NISBET /FORRESTER – KHARABOU SCOT THE LOOK AT FINIX. Black/Silver litter sister to 2nd in Minor Puppy dog and the same remarks apply. Very similar in make and shape but a feminine edition. A beautiful puppy that moved very soundly for her age. Followed by her 2 litter sisters. A beautiful litter all very similar.
3) CAMPBELL/WELLS- KHARABOU SCOT TO BE MAGIC
PUPPY BITCH ( 4)
1) KIRK- ISTANI CINDERELA ROCKAFELLA
2) CAMPBELL/WELLS - KHARABOU SCOT TO BE MAGIC- 3rd in the previous. All very similar but today just not as steady on the move. All credit to her breeders on such a lovely even litter.
3) NEWTON- SHIMALMA MANDARIN MAGIC
JUNIOR BITCH ( 10)
Headed by 4 litter mates.
1) DEVANEY – SAXONMILL MIDNIGHT MAGIC. J.W. Feminine, elegant Black/Silver. I first saw her last year and thought how lovely she was. Delighted to have the opportunity of going over her. I was not disappointed. Excellent head, eyes and expression. Long neck leading into excellent shoulders. Level topline. Deep chest a good spring of rib. Low set ringed tail carried correctly on the move .Good sweep from hip to hock. Moves soundly and true covering the ground. I am sure this young lady will go far. Litter sister to my Junior dog and they could be ’twins’.
2) HALL- SAXONMILL MIDNIGHT MUSE – Free moving Brindle litter sister to the winner. All the same remarks apply. A hard decision but I just preferred the overall shape of my winner. Will change places many times.
3) DUGDALE/COOPER – SAXONMILL MIDNIGHT MADNESS AMONG TRUGANINI
YEARLING BITCH ( 8 )
1) FIELDER- ASHAHNI AZANTI AT GARAMOND J.W. MY CC WINNER. Eye catching Black/ Silver. For me she has everything. Lovely head, eye and expression. Clean well shaped head. Long neck into excellent shoulders. Level topline. Good deep chest and spring of rib. Low set ringed tail. Well angulated hindquarters. Moves so soundly with spring and drive. Covers plenty of ground. Presented in good coat and condition. ( her 2nd) I am sure her 3rd is not far away. Interestingly I gave her mother the CC when I judged at Crufts.
2) PARSELL /BEANLAND – ASHARNI ALARAH AT HARLEXTAN. Litter sister to my winner. Same remarks apply. Pretty and feminine Black/Silver who moved well. Just preffered the overall balance of the winner. I am sure her crown is not far away.
3) ROEBUCK/HANNIGAN – FREECLOUD NAFRINI AT JAHERA J.W.
GRADUATE( 8)Headed by a great favourite of mine.
1) METCALFE – CUBANA NORTHERN STAR J.W. Black masked heavily grizzled Gold of correct size and proportions. Very eye catching in appearance. Excellent head eyes and expression. Long neck into excellent shoulders. Short level topline Correct fallaway and ringed tail. Good deep chest and spring of rib. Always gives her all. Moved well. Considered for the CC.
2) SMALL – CLOUDSIDE GLITTERSTORM J.W. I do not recollect ever having seen this brindle before. Took my eye when she entered the ring. Taller and rangier than my winner but still feminine. Good head, eyes and expression. Long neck into level topline and good shoulders. Deep chest and good spring of rib. Deep natural saddle. Excellent hindquarters. She certainly is a mover. Covers the ground with ease.
3) HARDING – ASHAHNI AYANA
POST GRADUATE( 9)
My most difficult class of the day. Hardly anything separating them. It just down to personal preferences and movement.
1) ROPER/MOORE –AZMARI BLACK ONYX AT TEMENSHU A firm favourite of mine. I have watched her grown from a naughty puppy to the elegant young lady she is today. She still has her moments but today she was on her best behaviour. Very elegant black/ tan. Excellent head, eye and expression. No trace of courseness. Long neck into excellent shoulders. Level topline and low set ringed tail carried correctly on the move. Good deep chest and spring of rib. Presented in wonderful coat and condition. Moved out true and steadily covering plenty of ground. Won the res CC on her effortless easy movement.
2) RENNER/ROPER – GEZANCOL GABRIELLE- Black masked Gold. Another that I do not recollect having seen before. Took my eye immediately for her overall shape. Very elegant, feminine head. Good eyes and expression. Excellent shoulders and good angulation fore and aft. Short level topline. Ringed tail Good chest and spring of rib. She moved soundly and truly covering the ground. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Will watch her with interest.
3) CHEESMAN - JIMELLREE WRONG IS RIGHT AT ZARAM.
MID LIMIT ( 4 )
1) FLOYD – HUBSHE UKEMOCHI – Black/Silver of correct size and proportions. A favourite of mine. My under graduate winner at Crufts and my opinion of her has not changed. Now more grown up and looking the part. Elegant head with correct eyes and expression. Long neck into well laid angulated shoulders. Level topline and correct depth and spring of ribs. Long sweep from hip to hock. Moved out freely with drive. In good coat and condition.
2) VIRGO ALTSIDE IN BLACK SILK FOR SUMAHARI J.W. All black. Taller than the winner but still feminine. Good head eyes and expression. Level topline . Well angulated shoulders and hindquarters. Good spring of rib and depth of chest. Sound coming and going. Moves out well covering plenty of ground.
3) SIMPSONS/FITZGERALD – FREECLOUD LIMONTA
LIMIT ( 8)
A lovely class to judge.
1) O’DONNELL – JAVIDAN KEEP THE FAITH – profusely coated Black masked Gold/brindle. Although beautifully presented for me she has too much coat. It tends to make her look ‘ boxy’, but underneath it is she is a beautiful shape. Elegant head with good eyes and expression. Long neck into excellent shoulders. Short level topline but lacking a little in fall away. Ringed tail carried correctly on the move. Excellent hindquarters. Effortless movement with power, spring and drive. Another with stamp of quality . Down to the last 4 for the CC
2) JONES – PAHLEVI MOLLY MAQUIRE OF PAHLEVI- A great favourite and my disappointment of the day. Black masked Red. So much quality about her. Wonderful head eyes and expression. Long neck into excellent shoulders. Short level topline. Good deep chest and spring of ribs. Low set ringed tail carried correctly on the move. Excellent hindquarters. Today she did not want to cooperate with her handler. Although moving soundly she lacked drive and enthusiasm. Always a great contender in any class.
3) MILLWARD – ALOUANN MOONLIGHT N ROSES. – Another favourite.
OPEN BITCH ( 4)
1) LINK – ALOUANN HOT N SPICE AT ORASHAN J.W. SH CM. Very feminine Shaded masked Gold who can never be overlooked. Excellent head eyes and expression. Excellent shoulders. Level topline. Low set ringed tail. Well angulated hindquarters. Always give her best on the move. She could move all day. In excellent coat and condition.
2) FLOYD – HUBSHE IZANAMI- Black/Silver. Litter sister to Mid Limit winner. Same remarks apply although she has a slightly heavier head. Good eyes and expression. Long neck into good shoulders. Level topline. Good spring of rib and depth of chest. Good fallaway and ringed tail. Excellent hindquarters. Moves soundly and true covering the ground. I have always liked this litter. All very even and of a type that I greatly admire.
3) WESTGARTH – JODAK ASTRA COMICAL WITH TAMAREESHA J.W.
