BELFAST   CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

AFGHAN HOUNDS   -  Judge   ADRIAN COLLINS
This critique was already submitted but not printed so due to requests at Crufts here it is again.  It had always been my wish to judge at Belfast Show, the first All Breed Ch show  I had attended 40 years ago.  I would like to thank the Society for the great Irish welcome and the hospitality shown me over the weekend.  The weather was good and the show was most professionally run with good sized rings.
DOGS
  Puppy   (1,0)

  1. Bastow’s   KARANDIKAR MOON DANCER

Black and tan,  good head and eye, good reach of neck and well laid shoulder, in great condition and hard muscle.  A proud young dog he moved well with great drive.  Best Puppy

Junior  (2,0)

  1. McDonald, Martyn & Hindley’s   NIGHTWIND QUANTUM JAHERA AT BIRKHALL (AI) (Imp Deu)   RCC

A real hound,  rangy with good angulation,  covered the ground with great reach and drive. He has great overall balance and a lovely shape.  I shall watch his career with interest.  One of the stars of the day RCC

2    Kemp’s   ANDIZHAN BANJALUCAH TO SUZAPH JW

Bl masked cream, this young dog is nicely made and he moved well but would have liked more length  carrying a thick coat which made him look short  in neck.

Post Graduate (4,0)

  1.  Pearce’s   AZYMSANDS BEWITCHED ART

Bl masked cream a well made hound full of enthusiasm,  covered the ground with style,  won the class on his movement.

  1. Lancashire’s  DRISHAUN DJETHRO TULL

Self masked red, lovely type,  beautifully presented , taller than one but lacked animation on the day.

  1.  Chadwick & MIllward’s  AFTERGLOW JUMPING RAINBOWS OF SOFICO
  2. Thompson & Twentyman’s  CUBANA WHAT DREAMS MAY COME TO GOTHIKA

Limit  (4,1)

  1. Bastow’s  CLOUDSIDE WARLORD AT KARANDIKAR

Black and silver, lovely outline and in wonderful coat.  I liked his overall balance but he lacked enthusiasm on the move.

2   Lancashire’s  DRISHAUN ASK ME NO QUESTIONS

Brindle,  very sound with good angulation and lovely to go over.  Again beautifully put down but preferred the balance of one.

3  Pearce’s  BIRKHALL MARK

Open (9,3)

  1. Lancashire’s  AM CH GAZON WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET     DCC  Group 1

Self masked gold, a proud upstanding dog with an elegant chiselled head, lovely eye and expression and good length of muzzle with plenty of underjaw.  He has overall balance and was in bloom.  He was keen striding out with great style. He was my choice to send into the big ring where he won the Hound Group.  A great ambassador for the breed.

2     Niedzwiedz , Cork & Knight-Messenger’s KHARAK LORD OF THE ISLES

An old boy and a credit to his owners at 10 yrs old, lovely to go over, a refined elegant type , moved with drive.

3    Fogarty’s  IR CH YARABIS WILDFIRE

4    Goff’s  CH GARDWRIGHT ONYA TAILS

BITCHES

Puppy  (2,0)

  1. Appleby, Minchin & Edwards’ VALKOR RUMOR HAS IT

Brindle, well made livery youngster, excelled in movement,  would have liked more underjaw

  1. Bastow’s KARANDIKAR MY SERENADE

Bl tan, lovely shape, good back end with good turn of stifle and low hock, didn’t move as well as her litter mate.

Post Graduate  (1,0)

  1. Wagget’s  SAXONMILLS MIDNIGHT KISS

Brindle, pretty girl, lovely shape, super head and good length of muzzle, true coat pattern, a real hound, moved with reach and drive. I would predict a promising future for this young lady.

Limit (7,2)

  1. Harris & Day’s  KHORINYA NAROOMA WITH PORTIANJA  BCC

Brindle, I could fill a page with superlatives to describe this lovely lady. She strode out with a reconnaissance gait  and great reach She had the far-seeing alertness of a huntress.  She looked at and through one.  She reminded me of the mythical windswept look of the great Coastwind champions.  I have no doubt she will go on to gain her title with ease.  A credit to owner and breeder.  It was a privilege to award her the CC.

  1.  Thompson & Twentyman’s DRISHAUN D’JEMIMA AT GOTHIKA

Bl masked red of lovely type, well made and balanced throughout, beautifully presented, moved true with drive.

  1. Wagget’s  SAXONMILL SHINING STAR
  2. Lancashire’s  DRISHAUN I’LL TELL YOU NO LIES JW

Open  (6,0)

1  Beck’s  METEWAND KOOMOOLOO AT ZIL BEC   RCC
Self masked gold, presented one with a dilemma here. A good specimen of the breed, good head and conformation to the standard, covered the ground well with reach and drive at good pace with a springy gait, could not be faulted, but had a severe lack of body coat in a breed where coat is king, she was not in bloom.  The last question to be asked was  could she do the job she was bred for, a definite yes.  In her native terrain, she is an afghan hound,  not splendour on the mat.

2.Lancashire’s  AM CH GAZON IT AIN’T ABOUT YOU DRISHAUN

Self masked silver grizzle, a beautiful  bitch, could carry a similar critique to her BOB litter mate.  Just did not move with the same drive, perhaps a little on the tall side for me,  outmoved by

3.Link’s  CH/IR CH ALOUANN HOT N SPICY AT ORASHAN  JW

4.Fogarty’s  YARAMIS GHOST FIRE
